Wildlife Camera Volunteer Program Orientation 6.25.22 (MANDATORY FOR INTERESTED VOLUNTEERS)

You are warmly invited to learn about wildlife camera at Bohemia Ecological Preserve. Since 2014, LandPaths volunteers and staff have participated in a citizen science Wildlife Camer a Program.This project is designed to develop a basline of fauna present on LandPaths preserves. This project also allows public to feel more connected to our preserves and the wildlife that live on these preserves. This training is intended for all volunteers interested in participating in LandPaths' Wildlife Camera Program. This training is for new volunteers and returning volunteers who were part of this program starting prior to 2021. Also as part of this training, you will get the opportunity to explore many remote and exciting sections of Bohemia Ecological Preserve. Bohemia Ecological Preserve is located on the ancestral territory of the Coast Miwok, past, present, and future. 

Outline for the day: We will ​​​​​talk about wildlife camera uses, LandPaths' wildlife camera project, and wildlife camera set up. After the main portion of our 1-hour training, you will get the opportunity to assist us with the set up of the wildlife cameras and learn more about the wildlife that live on our preserves. Our hike to set up the cameras will span aproximatly 3-4 miles over some steep slopes and rough terrain, but this hike can be optional for volunteers who are not comfortable with this strenuous hiking. We will eat lunch at the end of our training event. 

How to get there: The Quarry Road entrance to Bohemia Ecological Preserve is off Bohemian Highway, approximately 3.5 miles north of Occidental. From the intersection of Graton Road and Bohemian Highway, drive north on Bohemian Highway for approximately 3.5 miles. Look for the LandPaths' sign marking the entrance. You'll receive the exact address upon registration. 

What is LandPaths' Covid-19 volunteer workday policy? Please read the most recent version of LandPaths' Covid-19 policy before attending the workday.  

Does rain mean the workday is cancelled? This training will move forward if there is a light drizzle, but a torrential rainstorm will cancel.  Please call 707-544-7284 (then press 1) after 7am the morning of the stewardship day if the weather feels questionable. If you don't hear a notice of cancellation on the outgoing voice message, the stewardship day is moving forward.   

What should you bring?  

• Lunch, snacks, and a water bottle filled with water 
• A backpack for your gear
• Sturdy boots or shoes that can get muddy
• Long pants are recommended 
• Hat and sunscreen 
• Hand sanitizer and mask
• We'll provide small hand tools and the wildlife camera equipment. No other tools are needed for this training. saturday

What else do you need to know? 

• No experience necessary! Everyone is welcome! We will create tasks according to your abilities 
• You will be asked to sign a liability waiver
• There is a restroom and potable water at Bohemia
• No pets or smoking
