Redwood Sapling Stewardship

Last December, volunteers like you showed up for the land and community big time, joining together to plant 4400 redwood saplings over a whirlwind four-day stretch. This amazingly successful weekend of stewardship has supported LandPaths to continue to safely host community gatherings, school visits, and Owl Campers, while helping provide habitat and to heal and protect the watershed, the creek, and the overall health of the land. We are now looking for a few dedicated volunteers to help us continue the work of tending the trees by providing much needed watering- and potentially some weeding!
Place: With accessible pathways and proximity to Santa Rosa, Rancho Mark West is our outdoor classroom, community hub, and wild place of refuge in the Mayacamas Mountains, 20 minutes east of Santa Rosa. LandPaths, with generous assistance from the California Coastal Conservancy, purchased Rancho Mark West in 2011. Under the purchase terms, Jim and Betty Doerkson, have a reserved life estate on the property. LandPaths and the Doerksens participate in this land ownership partnership as a way to love the land and engage the public forever, especially local children, through outings and outdoor education. Rancho Mark West is located on the ancestral home of the Southern Pomo people and the Wappo people, past, present, and future. We recognize them as the first people and the first stewards of this land. We are on occupied territory and acknowledge the ongoing devastation of colonization.

How will weather conditions affect the day? The stewardship workday will move forward if there is a light rain, but if there is a fire, dangerous smoke, strong winds or very high heat, we will cancel. Please call 707-544-7284 (then press 1) after 7am the morning of the stewardship day if the weather feels questionable. If you don't hear a notice of cancellation on the outgoing voice message, the stewardship day is moving forward.
What should you bring?

Lunch, snacks, and a water bottle filled with water

- No experience necessary! We'll match stewardship tasks to your ability!

Cuidemos los arbolitos secuoya

En diciembre pasado, voluntarios como usted se presentaron a lo grande para la tierra y la comunidad, uniéndose para plantar 4400 árboles jóvenes de secuoya en un torbellino de cuatro días. Las tareas potencialmente incluyen:
- Riego de arbolitos de secuoya con una manguera o cubo
- Ayudar a mantener las mangueras de agua rectas, si se usan
- Llenar cubos de 5 galones con 1-3 galones de agua
- Llevar 1-3 galones de agua en un cubo para regar los arbolitos
- Caminar a través de terreno rocoso para proporcionar agua a los arbolitos
- Deshierbir alrededor de los arbolitos
- Transportar mangueras hacia arriba y hacia abajo por pendientes moderadas a empinadas

¿Qué debes traer?
