Docent Training
Bohemia Ecological Preserve
December 3rd & 4th*
December 3: 9am to 1pm
December 4: 10am to 4pm
*To complete the training, you must participate in both days.
Join our two-day training to become a Landpaths Docent at the spectacular Bohemia Ecological Preserve, located near the town of Occidental. This 1,000 acre preserve is currently only open through guided outings and stewardship volunteer work days. Docents are critical to increasing access to Bohemia Ecological preserve through creative and inspiring outings on the land, and you'll get to explore the preserve on your own as an added perk!
By participating in this training, you will:

learn tips and tricks for leading a successful outing

become familiar with this amazing LandPaths' open space preserve.

have the opportunitiy to design your own Outings throughout the year.

Steps to Becoming a Bohemia Docent with LandPaths

Sign up for the training

Fill out this application form: Docent Program Application

Attend two onsite training sessions (December 3 and 4)

Complete the Agreement Form / Liability Waiver

Apprentice on at least one (1) staff led Outing at the preserve
-
Over the course of the year, attend 4 enrichment outings (hikes, workshops, courses, etc.)
Ideally, Bohemia Volunteers docents should be able to:

walk or hike at least 5 miles on moderately hilly terrain.

present to small groups comfortably.
Requirements of Volunteers

18 years or older
-
1st aid/CPR certified
Commitments
-
Participate in the Docent Program for at least one year
-
Lead a minimum of 6 guided Outings at the Bohemia Ecological Preserve each year
-
Provide a Field Report following each guided Outing within 24 hours

Leading a Bohemia Ecological Preserve Outing takes approximately 4 hours
Cost
-
Participation in the first two orientation trainings is free of charge.

Participation in subsequent enrichment outings may have a cost or suggested donation of approximately $10-$40. Scholarships are available.

1st Aid/CPR training will be paid for by the volunteer (around $40) but we can help guide you to where these can be completed.
