You are warmly invited to lend a hand at Bohemia Ecological Preserve for the health of the forest, soil, and grasslands! This 1,000 acre protected, open space, people-powered preserve in West Sonoma County teems with old-growth forest, oak woodlands, native grasslands, and a legendary waterfall. Several endangered and at-risk species live here, including northern spotted owls, red tree voles, and Pennell's bird's beak. 

Come on out and join our friendly stewardship staff and help keep the land healthy and resilient in the face of wildfire and other climate-change aggravated challenges, and have fun outdoors with like-minded people! Bohemia Ecological Preserve is located on the ancestral territory of the Coast Miwok, past, present, and future. 

It's wildfire fuels reduction time on the preserve! You will help keep our forests healthy and resilient in the chance that a wildfire comes through our preserve.

Tasks for the day: 

• Hiking up and down moderate slopes 

• Trimming small branches off Douglas Fir, California Bay, and Oak trees with hand-saws, pole saws, or loppers 

• Felling small Douglas Fir trees with small hand-saws and loppers 

• Pulling French-broom seedlings by hand  

• Removing old-growth French broom shrubs with a saw or weed wrench. 

• Moving woody material to the trail 

How to get there: The entrance to Bohemia Ecological Preserve is off Bohemian Highway, approximately 3 miles north of Occidental. From the intersection of Graton Road and Bohemian Highway, drive north on Bohemian Highway for approximately 3 miles. Look for the LandPaths' sign marking the entrance. You'll receive the exact address upon registration. 

What is LandPaths' Covid-19 volunteer workday policy? Please read the most recent version of LandPaths' Covid-19 policy before attending the workday.  

Does rain mean the workday is cancelled? The stewardship workday will move forward if there is a light drizzle, but a torrential rainstorm will cancel.  Please call 707-544-7284 (then press 1) after 7am the morning of the stewardship day if the weather feels questionable. If you don't hear a notice of cancellation on the outgoing voice message, the stewardship day is moving forward.   

What should you bring?  

• Lunch, snacks, and a water bottle filled with water 
• A backpack for your gear
• Sturdy boots or shoes that can get muddy
• Long pants are recommended 
• Work gloves 
• Hat and sunscreen 
• Hand sanitizer and mask
• We'll provide tools, but bring your own if you'd like. Particularly shovels, hard rakes, and pitchforks
• No power tools, please

What else do you need to know? 

• No experience necessary! Everyone is welcome! We will create tasks according to your abilities 
• You will be asked to sign a liability waiver
• There is a restroom and potable water at Bohemia
• No pets or smoking

Tareas del día: 

• Subir y bajar pendientes moderadas 

• Recortar ramas pequeñas de abeto de Douglas, bahía de California y robles con sierras de mano, sierras de pértiga o tijeras de podar 

• Tala de pequeños abetos de Douglas con pequeñas sierras de mano y tijeras de podar 

• Sacando plántulas de escoba francesa a mano 

• Eliminación de arbustos viejos de retama francesa con una sierra o una llave de malas hierbas. 

• Mover material leñoso al sendero 

Instruccionnes: La entrada a Bohemia Ecological Preserve se encuentra junto a Bohemian Highway, aproximadamente a 4 km al norte de Occidental. Desde la intersección de Graton Road y Bohemian Highway, conduzca hacia el norte por Bohemian Highway durante aproximadamente 3 millas. Busque el letrero de LandPaths que marca la entrada.
