Charlie Brown Holiday Tree Harvest! 

Saturday, December 10th, 2022 

9am to 3:30pm (3 time slots available)

Note: Due to forecasted heavy rain and wind, this event has been rescheduled to 10am - 2pm at Bayer Farm. Further instructions will be provided by email. 

Bring your family to Riddell, outside of Healdsburg to find a non-traditional Holiday tree for this season.Harvest a free Holiday Tree AND  help our fire reduction effort at Riddell. You'll be guided by our stewardship specialists to remove Douglas firs in an area of the preserve where thinning is necessary for stewardship of the land. Which means you get to take home a Doug fir for their Holiday tree! Harvest as many trees as you like. Lots of different sizes available and while these are NOT manicured trees like you may purchase at a Tree Farm, they are filled with meaning and love. In harvesting this tree, you will have helped fire reduction effort for this land at the same time!

Sessions (please choose ONE upon registration)

• Session 1:  9am to 11 am
• Session 2: 11:15 am to 1:15 pm 
• Session 3: 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm 

Where to Meet: Meet LandPaths' staff and other volunteers in the parking lot of the Healdsburg Corporation Yard at 550 Westside Rd, Healdsburg, CA 95448. Once everyone arrives we will caravan to the preserve. Please arrive on time. 

Directions: From Highway 101 North, take the Central Healdsburg Exit. and make a slight left on Healdsburg Avenue.  Turn left onto Mill Street.  Continue under the highway overpass as Mill Street turns into Westside Road. The Corporation Yard parking lot will be on the left immediately before the bridge crossing at the intersection of Westside Rd and Lucius Way. There is a "Corporation Yard" sign at the entrance to the parking lot.           
   
From Highway 101 South, take the Westside Exit and turn right on Westside Rd.  The Corporation Yard parking lot will be on the left immediately before the bridge crossing at the intersection of Westside Rd and Lucius Way.

Tasks for the day include:  

• Hiking up and down moderate slopes 

• Searching for your favorite tree

• Felling small Douglas Fir trees with small hand-saws and loppers 

What is LandPaths' Covid-19 volunteer workday policy? Please read the most recent version of LandPaths' Covid-19 policy before attending the workday. 

Does rain mean the workday is canceled? The stewardship workday will move forward if there is a light drizzle, but a torrential rainstorm will cancel.  Please call 707-544-7284 (then press 1) after 7am the morning of the stewardship day if the weather feels questionable. If you don't hear a notice of cancellation on the outgoing voice message, the stewardship day is moving forward.  

What should you bring? 

• Sturdy boots or shoes that can get muddy
• Long pants recommended 
• Your own work gloves  
• Hat and sunscreen 

What else do you need to know? 

• Expect to do a 1.5-mile round-trip hike up a steep but well-graded trail to the project site. 
• You will be asked to sign a liability waiver.
• No restroom onsite
• No potable water available on the property. Make sure to fill up your water bottle ahead of time. 
• No pets or smoking.

~ La gran cosecha de arbolitos para las fiestas ~

Sábado 10 de diciembre

Traiga a su familia a Riddell, en las afueras de Healdsburg, para encontrar su árbol para esta temporada de fiestas. LandPaths le da la bienvenida para una oportunidad muy especial de encontrar consuelo en la naturaleza junto a otros en su comunidad, mientras trabajamos juntos para sanar, tanto a nosotros mismos como a la tierra. ¡Coseche un arbolito gratis y ayude a nuestro trabajo de reducción de incendios en Riddell al mismo tiempo! Se invitará a las personas a cortar el abeto de Douglas en un área de la reserva donde es necesario hacerlo. ¡Los participantes podrán llevarse a casa un abeto Doug para su arbolito para las fiestas! Estás invitado a cosechar tantos árboles como quieras. Hay muchos tamaños diferentes disponibles y, si bien estos NO son árboles como los que puede comprar en un negocio, están llenos de significado y amor. Al cosechar este árbol, ¡habrás ayudado al mismo tiempo a trabajar en la reducción de incendios en esta tierra! Los árboles son gratis pero se agradecen las donaciones :)

Que esperar: 

• Subir y bajar pendientes moderadas
• Búsqueda de su árbol favorito
• Tala de pequeños abetos de Douglas con pequeñas sierras de mano y tijeras de podar

Que traer:

• Botas resistentes o zapatos que pueden embarrarse
• Se recomiendan pantalones largos
• Tus propios guantes 
• Sombrero y protector solar

Detalles:

• Habrá una estación para lavarse las manos.
• La caminata hasta el sitio del proyecto es de ~ 1.5 millas de ida y vuelta por un sendero empinado, pero bien nivelado.
• Se le pedirá que firme una exención de responsabilidad.
• No hay baños en el lugar.
• No hay agua potable disponible en la propiedad.
• No se permiten mascotas ni fumar.
