Family Walk at Bohemia Ecological Preserve
Led by LandPaths' Docents Emily and Lindsey
Sunday November 5th, 10am to 1pm

A group of people walk up a dirt path towards a tree-covered hill.

Gather with your loved ones for a family friendly adventure in Bohemia. We will explore the beauty of Bohemia, and engage all five senses to soak in the colors, sounds, and sensations of late autumn on the land. We’ll follow our curiosity to the 'Top of the World' and take in the views from the top, and then adventure down to the valley to explore the forest and the creek. This is a family focused walk that welcomes folks of all ages, and is most specifically designed for families with young children. Bring water, good walking shoes, sun protection, warm layers, snacks and a picnic lunch.

  • You will be asked you to sign a waiver of liability
  • There is no potable water on the property
  • Portable restroom located by the parking area
  • No smoking and no pets are allowed on the preserve

The hike to the 'Top of the World' is about a 1 mile roundtrip on steep and rugged terrain (about 200 ft of elevation gain over 0.5 miles). The descent can get slippery, trekking poles are helpful.

About the area:

Bohemia Ecological Preserve is a 1,000-acre protected open space preserve with 554 acres of the preserve stewarded by LandPaths and the rest by a private landowner. This preserve is located in the western hills of Sonoma County. The preserve’s geographic location with both coastal and inland influences allows for a unique mixture of habitats including old-growth forests, oak woodlands, coastal meadows, and a treasured waterfall.  The land is home to several endangered and at-risk species of flora and fauna, including northern spotted owls, red tree voles, and Pennell’s bird’s beak. Stunning vistas, 25-foot waterfall, and delightfully wooded riparian corridors truly make this preserve a special place. The drive from the entrance of the preserve to the parking area is a little less than a mile on a rural gravely road with variable steepness. if you do not feel comfortable driving on these conditions, you may be able to carpool with us. Four-wheel drive/AWD cars are recommended.

What to bring:

  • Bottle of water, snacks, and lunch for the day
  • Comfortable clothing to protect from the sun (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)
  • Comfortable walking shoes/hiking boots (that can get dirty)

Driving directions, parking details, and exact location of Bohenia Ecological Preserve will be sent out 2 to 3 days before the outing by the outings field specialist.
