Created especially for children ages 0 to 6 and their families/caregivers, Let's Read Outside is an exciting, outdoor literary adventure to get the weekend started right! This event is in partnership with the Sonoma County Library. Join us for the Little Chefs and Gardeners story day at Bayer Farm! Join children's author Tenisha Bernal as she explores first words through interactive reading and hands-on activities. All attendees will receive a free copy of the books The First 100 Words of the Little Gardener and The First 100 Words from the Little Chef (first come- first served).
This is a bilingual event, with book readings in English and Spanish. We require that you register in advance at the link below.
About Let's Read Outside
Let's Read Outside is a garden program at Bayer Farm, Jeff's Garden at Andy's Unity Park and other Sonoma County open spaces. This is a special opportunity to get to know Bayer Farm and engage in aloud story time in the garden. The Let's Read Outside program provides opportunities for families to combine a love of reading with a love of being outdoors. Our goal is to increase the percentage of family members reading to children daily, while at the same time encouraging children and families to explore nature and get outside together. According to the Department of Education, the more children read and are read to, the more success they will have in their academic trajectory. Let's Read Outside story time offers an opportunity to model reading out loud to the children, explore Bayer Farm and foster a love of books! If you have never visited the park and garden, this is your chance!
Where:
This event will take place at Bayer Farm, 1550 West Ave. Santa Rosa, CA 95407.
Due to limited parking space, please find street parking along West Avenue and walk to the garden.
What to bring:

Anything that will make you and your child comfortable.

Your own reusable water bottle and snacks

Comfortable walking shoes and clothes that can get dirty

Special Note: If you have books that your child has outgrown, or simply wish to donate some children's book to the program, please bring them with you to this event! These books will get redistributed at future Let's Read events at Bayer Farm.
What to expect:

Community fun time outside, reading aloud and surrounded by the wonderful plants and critters of the garden.

You will be asked to sign a liability waiver upon arrival.

There is a porta-toilet in the garden.

No smoking or pets allowed in the garden.

This event is free thanks to the collaboration between the City of Santa Rosa and LandPaths.

Acerca de Let's Read Outside / Leamos afuera
Leamos afuera es parte de los programas de verano en el jardín en Bayer Farm, Jeff's Garden en Andy's Unity Park y otros espacios abiertos del condado de Sonoma. Esta es una oportunidad especial para conocer Bayer Farm y participar en la hora del cuento en voz alta en el jardín. El programa Leamos Afuera brinda oportunidades para que las familias combinen el amor por la lectura con el amor por estar al aire libre. Nuestro objetivo es aumentar el porcentaje de miembros de la familia que leen a los niños todos los días y, al mismo tiempo, alentar a los niños y las familias a explorar la naturaleza y salir juntos. Según el Departamento de Educación, cuanto más lean y lean los niños, más éxito tendrán en su trayectoria académica. La hora del cuento Let's Read Outside ofrece la oportunidad de modelar la lectura en voz alta para los niños, explorar Bayer Farm y fomentar el amor por los libros. Estacionamiento es limitado, favor de buscar estacionamiento sobre la calle West Ave y después caminar al jardín;
Que Traer:

zapatos y ropa cómodos que se puedan ensuciar

Favor de notar: Si tienen libros con temas de la naturaleza que sus hijos/as ya no usan y quisieran donarlos al programa pueden traerlos a este evento. Usaremos los libros para regalar en las próximas sesiones de lectura en el jardín.
Resumen de actividad:

Una hora y media de diversión al aire libre y lectura en voz alta. Al fin de la lectura los participantes se llevarán un libro para agregar a su colección.

Les pediremos que firmen un acuerdo de liberación al comienzo del evento.

No se permite fumar en el jardín ni traer a sus mascotas.
-
No hay baños en el jardín, pero hay un baño portátil en el jardin.
