Fall Hiking at Lafferty Ranch
10/05/2024 09:00 AM - 12:00 PM PT
Description
Fall is here and the days are getting shorter and more temperate. Come experience the changing of the season in Petaluma’s jewel, the only publicly-owned land on the west side of Sonoma Mountain. Under contract with the City of Petaluma, LandPaths has been leading hikes on the land to introduce groups to its history and natural features since the summer of 2022.
We’ll pass through groves of venerable oak and bay trees, with a total elevation gain of 500’. The hiking terrain ranges from broad, gentle meadows to steep hillsides. Along the way, naturalist Joe Cochrane will help us identify the various flora and fauna we encounter. We’ll pass through some signs of settlement, pausing to see if any of the heirloom fruit trees are still bearing fruit. We then roughly parallel Adobe Creek up to its official headwater springs. The trail leads away from the creek there to spectacular views of Petaluma, Petaluma River, the coastal mountain range, and SF Bay. We’ll stop here for a bit to enjoy the moment, each other’s company, and snacks before returning to our cars. Total hike length is about 2 miles.
