Invigorating Sunday afternoon hike at Lafferty Ranch
11/10/2024 02:30 PM - 05:30 PM PT
Description
After a long, hot summer, it’s a perfect time to get outside on Sonoma Mountain. As locals know, November can bring some of the year’s most beautiful weather — or an early start to our Mediterranean climate’s rainy season. Either way, join Lafferty Ranch docents Colleen Barclay and Eberle Ewing for an invigorating Sunday afternoon hike. We’ll start at 2:30 PM, when the temperatures are likely to be mild and, if the sun is out, the angled light will accentuate the topography from our vista points. After ascending the trail as it follows the course of Adobe Creek, which has its headwaters higher on the mountain, we’ll trace the same route back down, traversing land that is as beautiful as it is significant — historically, ecologically, and geologically. Happily answering your questions and sharing information, we’ll keep the group together and pause for views, snacks and refreshment (bring your favorites), or just to catch our breath. The approximate distance is 2 miles and the elevation gain/loss is 500 ft. Wear layers, pack a light rain jacket and a hat to be prepared for whatever the day brings, and be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes or boots (and bring hiking poles if you use them) to navigate the steeper sections.
