Quema de tierras | Patch Burn at Riddell Nature Preserve

LandPaths se complace en anunciar la primera temporada de nuestro nuevo programa Good Fire.  El Programa Good Fire busca devolver el fuego a la tierra de una manera segura, respetuosa y significativa orientada a la comunidad. Hacemos esto a través de una variedad de técnicas de quema, desde la quema de pilas hasta el fuego prescrito, pero también a través de un método intermedio de "quemas de parcelas".  Ya sea que sea nuevo o experimentado con el uso ecológico del fuego, el Programa Good Fire de LandPaths le ofrece una forma de profundizar su relación con la tierra a través del fuego.  
¡Es tiempo de reducción de combustibles para incendios forestales en la reserva! Ahora que hemos sacado toneladas de escoba francesa y cortado abetos Douglas, es hora de minimizar los escombros leñosos mientras está bien hacer pilas de quema. ¡Cuanta más gente tengamos, más podremos hacer! ¡Únete a nosotros y ayúdanos a devolver el buen fuego a la tierra!
 
Las tareas del día incluyen:  
  • Senderismo subiendo y bajando pendientes moderadas
  • Pilas de encendido y quemado
  • Juntar escombros de madera y agregar escombros leñosos para quemar pilas
  • Ajuste de la forma de la pila con herramientas manuales
  • Apagar la pila de quema con agua y herramientas manuales
  • Evaluación del calor del fuego
Lo que debes llevar, si lo tienes: 
  • Almuerzo tipo picnic, bocadillos y abundante (2 litros +) de agua, mochila para guardar su equipo
  • Botas o zapatos resistentes que puedan embarrarse
  • Pantalones largos y ropa totalmente no sintética
  • Gafas de sol o gafas de seguridad
  • Pañuelo para la cara/cuello
  • Guantes de cuero
  • Sombrero de ala ancha y protector solar
¿Qué más necesitas saber? 
  • Habrá una estación de lavado de manos.
  • Espere hacer una caminata de ida y vuelta de 1.5 millas por un sendero algo empinado pero bien nivelado hasta el sitio del proyecto.
  • Se le pedirá que firme una exención de responsabilidad.
  • Baño en el lugar
  • No hay agua potable disponible en la propiedad. Asegúrate de llenar tu botella de agua con anticipación.
  • No se admiten mascotas ni se permite fumar.
Dónde encontrarse: Reúnete con el personal de LandPaths y otros voluntarios en el estacionamiento del Depósito de la Ciudad de Healdsburg en 550 Westside Rd, Healdsburg, CA 95448. Una vez que todos lleguen, iremos en caravana a la reserva. Por favor, llega a tiempo.
Indicaciones: Desde la autopista 101 Norte, toma la salida Central Healdsburg y gira ligeramente a la izquierda en Healdsburg Avenue. Gira a la izquierda en Mill Street. Continúa por debajo del paso elevado de la autopista mientras Mill Street se convierte en Westside Road. El estacionamiento del Depósito estará a la izquierda, inmediatamente antes del cruce del puente en la intersección de Westside Rd y Lucius Way. Hay un letrero de "Corporation Yard" (Depósito de la Ciudad) en la entrada del estacionamiento.

Si necesitamos cancelar debido al clima u otras circunstancias: recibirá inmediatamente un correo electrónico si el programa se cancela. También puede volver a consultar esta publicación; dirá "CANCELADO" si se suspende el programa.

Patch Burn at the Riddell Preserve

Greetings community fire tenders,

LandPaths is pleased to announce the first season of our new Good Fire Program.  The Good Fire Program seeks to return fire to the land in a safe, respectful, and meaningful community-oriented way. We do this through a variety of burning techniques, from pile burning to prescribed fire, but also through an intermediate method of 'patch burns'.  Whether you are brand new to fire or are an experienced fire tender, the LandPaths Good Fire Program offers you a way to deepen your relationship with the land through fire.  
It's wildfire fuels reduction time on the preserve! Now that we've pulled tons of French Broom and lopped Douglas Firs, it's time to minimize the woody debris while it's okay to do burn piles. The more people we have, the more we can do! Come join us and help us return good fire to the land!
 
Tasks for the day include:  
  • Hiking up and down moderate slopes 
  • Lighting burn piles and letting them creep
  • Gathering wood debris and adding woody debris to burn piles 
  • Adjusting pile shape with hand-tools 
  • Putting out burn pile with water and hand-tools
  • Assessing fire heat
What you should bring, if you have it: 
  • Picnic lunch, snacks & plenty (2 liters+) of water, backpack to hold your gear
  • Sturdy boots or shoes that can get muddy
  • Long pants and fully non-synthetic clothing
  • Sunglasses or safety glasses
  • Bandana for your face/neck
  • Leather gloves  
  • Brimmed hat and sunscreen
What else do you need to know? 
  • A handwashing station will be available.
  • Expect to do a 1.5-mile round trip hike up a somewhat steep but well-graded trail to the project site. 
  • You will be asked to sign a liability waiver.
  • Restroom onsite
  • No potable water available on the property. Make sure to fill up your water bottle ahead of time. 
  • No pets or smoking. 
Where to Meet: Meet LandPaths' staff and other volunteers in the parking lot of the Healdsburg Corporation Yard at 550 Westside Rd, Healdsburg, CA 95448. Once everyone arrives we will caravan to the preserve. Please arrive on time. 
Directions: From Highway 101 North, take the Central Healdsburg Exit. and make a slight left on Healdsburg Avenue.  Turn left onto Mill Street. Continue under the highway overpass as Mill Street turns into Westside Road. The Corporation Yard parking lot will be on the left immediately before the bridge crossing at the intersection of Westside Rd and Lucius Way. There is a "Corporation Yard" sign at the entrance to the parking lot. From Highway 101 South, take the Westside Exit and turn right on Westside Rd.  The Corporation Yard parking lot will be on the left immediately before the bridge crossing at the intersection of Westside Rd and Lucius Way.

If we need to cancel due to weather or other circumstances: You will immediately receive an email if the program gets cancelled. However, if you would like to confirm, check back on this post; it will say "CANCELLED" if the program is called off.
