Garden Day at Ocean Song Preserve

Please join us to tend the pollinator and habitat garden at Ocean Song-Myers Preserve in Occidental! Volunteer land stewardship days like this are a good way to experience the preserve, which is closed to public access.

Activities depend on the season, and might include pruning, mulching, mowing or other seasonal needs. Your ability will guide the task! The day will be led by by volunteer garden steward Jan Lochner. We are thankful to her for alll the work she does, along with dedicated volunteers like you, to maintain this iconic garden!

10:30am - 12pm - Care for the garden with Jan
12pm - 12:30pm - Lunch in the garden (BYOL)
12:30 - 2pm - Care for the garden
2pm - 3pm - (optional) Hike around the preserve with Jan

Where to Meet: We will meet in the parking area just outside the habitat garden in front of the large red-roofed barn at 10:30am sharp.

Directions: From the town of Occidental, head west on Coleman Valley Rd for 1.8 Miles. Turn right to remain on Coleman Valley Rd and continue an additional 3.4 miles to the main entrance to the preserve. Once you are out of the trees, pass the pond on the left, and have a view of the ocean, turn left into the preserve at 19100 Coleman Valley Road. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ADDRESSES ARE NOT IN NUMERICAL ORDER ON COLEMAN VALLEY ROAD. Do not turn left until you see the address 19100 otherwise you will get lost and go down the wrong road.

What to Bring With You:

Picnic lunch, snacks & plenty of water, backpack to hold your gear
Sturdy boots or shoes that can get muddy
Long pants recommended
Work gloves
Hat and sun screen

What else do you need to know?

You will be asked to sign a liability waiver.
No stewardship or volunteer workday experience is necessary!
There is a restroom on the property.
There is no potable water available on the property. Bring your own water bottle filled with water.
No pets or smoking allowed.
No overnight camping allowed at the property.

If we need to cancel due to weather or other circumstances: You will immediately receive an email if the program gets cancelled. However, if you would like to confirm, check back on this post; it will say "CANCELLED" if the program is called off.
