Help us open doors to nature! Enroll in our two-day training to become a LandPaths' Docent for the magnificent Bohemia Ecological Preserve, a 1,000-acre natural gem in Occidental or for Lafferty Ranch, near the top of Sonoma Mountain, in Petaluma. Currently, these beautiful spaces are only open through LandPaths's programming. As a docent, you'll play a vital role in increasing public access by leading creative and inspiring outings.
 
By participating in this training, you will:
  • Become familiar with the site
  • Have the opportunity to design your own outings
  • Learn the steps for leading a successful program

Please read the details below before registering
 
Steps to Becoming a Docent with LandPaths 
  1. Fill out an application: Docent Program Application (if you haven't had a chance to do so already)
  2. Register for and attend the two training sessions (this online registration)
  3. Complete the Agreement Form/Liability Waiver (at training)
  4. Apprentice on at least one staff or experienced docent led outing (after the training)
  5. Participate in four enrichment activities throughout the first year as a docent
Ideally, volunteer docents should be able to: 
  • Walk or hike 2-5 miles on moderately hilly terrain
  • Be comfortable presenting to and leading small groups 
Requirements
  • 18 years or older
  • First aid/CPR certified (can be completed after the training)
Commitments
  • Be an active LandPaths' Docent for a year
  • Lead a minimum of 4 guided outings per year
  • Plan and be prepared for your guided outing
  • Provide a Field Report following each outing
Cost
  • Participation in the two-day training is free of charge
  • Participation in subsequent enrichment activities may have a cost or suggested donation of approximately $10-$40
  • 1st Aid/CPR training Certification - cost around $40-60
