Grass Blast at Ocean Song Myers

Learn about and tend the grassland with us! Our grass blast volunteer workdays will focus on learning about grassland ecology, basic grass ID, and collect seed for seeding into burning piles and other restoration projects. Ocean Song is home to several coastal prairie grassland, including a mostly intact serpentine grassland. This day will focus on learning more about the plants that make up the coastal prairie grassland, the ecology and history of positive disturbance in this ecosystem, and learn to ID and collect seed from several native bunch grasses. 

Tasks for the day include:  

  • Hiking on and off trails.  

  • Identitification of flora of the grassland

  • Collect of grass and forb seeds

If we need to cancel due to weather or other circumstances: You will immediately receive an email if the program gets cancelled. However, if you would like to confirm, check back on this post; it will say "CANCELLED" if the program is called off.
 
What to Bring With You: 
  • Picnic lunch, snacks & plenty of water, backpack to hold your gear
  • Sturdy boots or shoes that can get muddy
  • Long pants recommended 
  • Work gloves 
  • Hat and sunscreen 
  • Optional, but encouraged: species identification books and guides or iNaturalist app
What else do you need to know? 
  • You will be asked to sign a liability waiver.
  • There will be a LandPaths A-Frame sign at the entrance where you enter
  • No stewardship or volunteer workday experience is necessary! 
  • There is no potable water available on the property.
  • No pets or smoking. 
  • Please carpool if possible!
