Moonlight Hike to the Meadow: Caminata Lunar a la Pradera

Come on out for an evening walk beneath the summer moon at Bohemia Ecological Preserve. LandPaths' Bohemia Docent Joe will lead a hike from the preserve entrance to a beautiful meadow, where you'll enjoy a relaxed gathering with snacks, friendly conversation, and time to appreciate the sights and sounds of the preserve lit by the moon. 

Slow down and experience the preserve through your senses—listening for owls and other nighttime wildlife, watching the moon rise over the hills, and, weather permitting, enjoying the stars above. You'll also have the opportunity to take part in a few optional activities designed to encourage reflection, connection, and appreciation for the natural world.

We'll return to the trailhead together before the evening concludes.

About the Preserve: Bohemia Ecological Preserve is located on the ancestral homeland of the Pomo  people, past, present, and future. The nearest federally recognized tribes at the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians and Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. This 1,000 acre protected open space preserve stewarded by LandPaths in partnership with a private landowner, in the western hills of Sonoma County, is a land of old-growth forests, oak woodlands, and coastal meadows. The land is home to several endangered and at-risk species of flora and fauna, including northern spotted owls, red tree voles, and Pennell’s bird’s beak. 

Details:  

  • We will ask you to sign a waiver of liability

  • There is a porta-potty onsite

  • No potable water available onsite

  • No dogs or other pets allowed. 

  • No smoking or vaping on the preserve

  • It's important to arrive on time so that we can begin the hike on time. 

 

Difficulty:

 A leisurely round-trip hike from the preserve entrance to the meadow and back. The route follows established trails with gentle to moderate grades. Approximately 1–2 miles total

What to bring: 

  • A reusable waterbottle filled with water and snacks 

  • Layers for changing evening temperatures

  • Warm jacket or blanket for gatheing time

  • Comfortable walking/hiking shoes 

  • Flashlight or headlamp--> Optional as we will encourage minimal light use to preserve everyone's night vision

Directions: From Occidental head north on Bohemian Highway. In about 3 miles the entrance will be on your right. As you are driving there you will pass Alliance Redwoods and Westminster Woods. If you end up in the town of Monte Rio, you have gone too far.

Parking: The lower parking lot is just uphill of the gate, near a kiosk and some boulders. You'll be met by the docent who will direct you where to park.

Cancellations:  We will make every effort to let you know ahead of time if the outing gets cancelled and we would really appreciate a message from you if you need to cancel as well. These outings often have a waitlist.Will we canceled if it rains? A light drizzle won't stop us, but we'll cancel if it's a heavy downpour. We'll email you if we cancel. You can also check back on this post; it will say "CANCELLED" if the program  is called off.

Disfruta la Preserve Ecologica de Bohemia en una luz differente mientras nos juntamos para una tarde de caminar bajo la luna de verano. Empezaremos con una caminata ligera desde la entrada de la preserva hasta la pradera en donde disfrutaremos de un ambiente relajado con bocadillos, conversaciones bajas y tiempo para agradecer de las vistas y sonidos naturales del anochecer. 

Cuando se desvanece la luz del dia, iremos a paso lento para experimentar la preserva a travez de nuestros sentidos- escuchar por buhos y otra fauna silvestre de noche, viendo la luna subiendose sobre las colinas, y si permite el clima, ver las estrellas brillar. Los participantes tambien tendran la oportunidad de participar en actividades que promocionan refleccion, conneccion y aprecio del mundo natural.  

Regresaremos a el comienzo de la partia de ruta antes de que la noche se concluya.

Sobre la Preserva: La Preserva Ecologica de Bohemia es situada en la tierra ancestral de los Pomo y Coast Miwok. Es su tierra en el presente, pasado, y futuro. Esta preserva de 1,000 acres es protegida y mantenida por LandPaths en asociacion con propretario privado en las collinas oestes de el condado de Sonoma, es una tierra de bosques antiguos, bosques de roble, y predadas costales.   La tierra es casa de flores y fauna en peligro de extinción incluyendo a el buho moteado del norte, el topillo rojo arbolicola y el pico de pajaros de corral.

Dificultad:

 De ida y vuelta de paso lento desde la entrada hasta le pradera. Caminaremos mas o menos 1 a 2 millas en ruta que sigue caminos establecidos. cambia entre dificultad facil y dificil. 

Que traer: 

  • Una botella de agua llena, bocadillos 

  • capas para el cambio de temperatura al atardecer

  • Chamara calientita o cobija para el tiempo de reunion

  • Zapatos comodos para la caminata

Estacionamiento: El estacionamiento bajo esta a la cima de la entrada al lado de unas rocas gigantes. Por favor llegar con a tiempo porque los docentes te dirijiran desde la entrada a donde te estacionaras.
