Nourished by Nature Winter Break Camp

Rancho Mark West, Santa Rosa

December 20 - 22, 2021 

9am to 3pm 

$200 w/ scholarships available based on need

Open to youth ages 6 to 13 

 

 

 

This winter break, get your child outside for exploring, games, hands-on nature exploration, painting, singing, and more at Rancho Mark West, LandPaths' 120-acre magical community hub in the hills of eastern Santa Rosa. Drawing from our In Our Own BackYard (IOOBY) environmental education program, in the morning, we'll adventure at the pond, creek, and forest, explore plants and animals, and do some fun, hands-on science activities. After lunch, we'll play nature games, make art, add to our nature journals, and connect with the natural world. 

  • Cost: $200  

  • Dates: December 20-22, 2021 

  • Days: Monday through Wednesday 

  • Time: 9 AM to 3 PM, rolling drop off starts at 8:45 AM.  

  • Apprentice Program: Optional leadership role for 11-13 year old campers (Open only to youth who have served as an Apprentice during a summer camp session).  

Scholarships and/ partial scholarships are available. Please read all of the following information before you apply: If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, please fill out the scholarship application BEFORE you register for camp. You can also call our camp staff and they will assist in filling it out for you. Filling out a scholarship application does not guarantee a scholarship. PLEASE wait for LandPaths' staff to contact you with a scholarship approval before you actually register. Each scholarship recipient is asked to pay a $30 minimum.

Weather: Nourished by Nature will take place rain or shine, though we may shorten the days if the weather conditions are deemed unsafe or too miserably cold and wet. We can provide rain ponchos and boots for participants that need them.

Covid Safety Overview

Although the decision to send your child to camp is not an easy one with the current Covid -19 pandemic, we know the need for healthy stimulation and joyful learning experiences outside are more important than ever.  We have worked hard to adapt our programs to make them as safe as possible. We look forward to hosting this small camp outdoors and in the open walled barn at Rancho Mark West. Youth, staff, and volunteers will wear masks while at camp. We will be asking all youth, staff and volunteers to wear masks while at camp. We are happy to announce we will be thinking of this small winter camp as 'one group', with portions of the day spent in 2 small groups of 12, assigned by age.  

While the risk of exposure to Covid -19 cannot be completely eliminated, we are confident in the procedures we are implementing: 

  • All Families, staff and volunteers will be asked to monitor their health for 14 days prior to the program start and fill out a pre-screening health form. 

  • Adults and youth will be asked to wear masks at all times when not eating or drinking. Participants should bring a face mask each day. We will have extra masks for those who need them. 

  • Staff, volunteers and participants’ temperatures will be checked and recorded daily with a no-touch thermometer. Parents will be asked to remain until their child(ren)’s temperature(s) have been taken. Any child with an elevated temperature or fever will be isolated and/or not permitted to join for the day.  

  • All activity areas and equipment will be sanitized between each group’s use. Shared areas like bathrooms, will be sanitized by staff and volunteers between each use.  

  • Each group site, bathroom and main activity area will have a hands-free hand washing station and soap. Hand sanitizer will always be available as well. 

  • Physical distancing will be practiced whenever possible

*** Our beloved wildlands and garden burned in the Glass Fire and while nature is ever resilient and rebounding daily, the mark of the fire is clearly written on the landscape. Youth will spend some time learning about fire ecology and the resilience of our forest communities that have evolved with fire for many years along with how we can continue to manage the landscapes for greater fire resilience in the future.  

Payment Details

  • Payment is due in full at the time of registration. There will be no deposits or partial payments (aside from approved scholarship recipients). 

  • Upon registration, you will be required to fill in the electronic camp forms for your child. 

  • Please complete your registration online whenever possible. There may be situations when online registration is not possible or is too cumbersome. We can process credit card payments over the phone, we also accept checks or cash. 

 

What happens if you need to cancel? 

Full payment is due on registration. $30 of your payment is considered "non-refundable." You can receive a full refund, minus a $30 processing fee, until one weeks prior to the first day of camp. Cancellations made after less than one week before the first day of camp will not receive a refund. If LandPaths has to cancel a program prior to its start due to Covid19 Pandemic related Health Orders and/or increased health risks we will offer refunds minus the $30 processing fee. No refunds will be possible for programs canceled once they are in session.

Staff 

LandPaths' education field specialists are CPR and First Aid-certified, Covid-19 vaccinated, skilled and trained outdoor educators bring years of experience working with youth in outdoor settings. There will be at least three staff members present at camp at all times. Staff to camper ratio is generally one staff to 10 campers. We also have a cadre of skilled and trained volunteers assisting throughout the day, making the adult to camper ratio closer to one adult to five campers. All Camp staff and volunteers have been fingerprinted for background checks.  

Scholarships 

LandPaths is actively committed to making camp accessible for all youth, regardless of socioeconomic hurdles. We offer scholarships to 40 percent of our campers, with the goal of a camp that is a true reflection of all of us who live here in Sonoma County.

Personal 

Nuestro personal de educadores al aire libre está certificado en Resucitación Cardiopulmonar y primeros auxilios, han recibido la vacuna de Covid 19, tienen capacitación y años de experiencia trabajando con jóvenes en entornos al aire libre. Habrá al menos tres miembros del personal presentes durante el campamento en todo momento. La proporción de personal a estudiante es generalmente de 1 adulto por cada 10 estudiantes. También contamos con un grupo de voluntarios capacitados que brindan asistencia durante todo el día, lo que hace que la proporción de adultos a estudiantes se acerque a un adulto por cada cinco estudiantes. A todo el personal y los voluntarios se les ha revisado sus antecedentes por medio de huellas digitales. 

Becas 

LandPaths está activamente comprometido a hacer que el campamento sea accesible para todos los jóvenes, independientemente de los obstáculos socioeconómicos.
