Let's Read Outside: Stories in the Garden

Join us for an exciting, outdoor, literary adventure geared towards young children ages 0-6yrs and their families/caregivers. We will share and aloud reading session at Bayer Farm, heart of Roseland, while enjoying the beauty of the garden. All participating children will walk away with a book at the end of each session to add to their collection at home. Participants will also enter a raffle for a chance to win a special hand-made reading quilt donated by our partners at Santa Rosa Quilting Guild! Most books and events will be bilingual, in English and Spanish. Pre-registration is required.

The Let's Read Outside: Stories in the Garden sessions are a part of the Summer at Bayer Farm programs. This is a special opportunity to get to know Bayer Farm and engage in out-loud story time in the garden. The Let's Read Outside program provides opportunities for families to combine a love of reading with a love of being outdoors. Our goal is to increase the percentage of family members reading to children daily, while at the same time encouraging children and families to explore nature and get outside together. According to the Department of Education, the more children read and read to, the more success they will have in their academic trajectory. Let's Read Outside story time offers an opportunity to model reading out loud to the children, explore Bayer Farm and foster a love of books! If you have never visited the park and garden, this is your chance! 

On this session, we will be joined by special guests, Marlene and Serena, from Sonoma County Library! They will be our special guest readers and will be guiding us on a special arts and crafts activity.

Where: This event will take place at Bayer Farm, 1550 West Ave. Santa Rosa, CA 95407.

Due to limited parking space, please find street parking along West Avenue and walk to the garden. We will be meeting by the red barn underneath the walnut tree.

What to bring: Anything that will make you and your child comfortable.  

• your own reusable water bottle and snacks

• comfortable walking shoes and clothes that can get dirty 

• Special Note: If you have nature-themed books that your child has outgrown, or simply wish to donate some children's book to the program, please bring them with you to this event! These books will get redistributed in future Let's Read events at Bayer Farm.

What to expect: Community fun time outside, reading outloud and surrounded by the wonderful plants and critters of the garden.

• You will be asked to sign a liability waiver upon arrival. 

• Please note that there is no restroom in the garden; there is a portatoilet on the park side.

• No smoking or pets allowed in the garden.

• Please read the most recent version of LandPaths' Covid-19 policy before attending this event.

Le invitamos a una aventura literaria al aire libre, llena de emoción completamente gratuita para niños/as de 0-6 años de edad y sus familiares/guardianes. ¡Los hermanos/as mayores también son bienvenidos a disfrutar de este evento! En nuestro primer evento de la temporada, disfrutaremos de una lectura al aire libre conducida en asociación de la Biblioteca del Condado de Sonoma, mas otras actividades en el jardin por el personal de LandPaths. Participantes también participarán en una rifa para ganar una colcha para leer al aire libre proveida por el Santo Rosa Quilting Guild. ¡Acompañenos!

El programa de Leamos Afuera es parte de nuestra programción de verano en Bayer Farm. Es una oportunidad especial para salir al aire libre y conocer el jardin. Los expertos están de acurdo en que, leer en voz alta es lo más importante que los padres pueden hacer para ayudar a sus niños en su trayectoria educativa. Incluso hay evidencia científica que sugiere que pasar tiempo al aire libre contribuye al aumento de la memoria a corto plazo, libera endorfinas para ser más felíz, mejora el enfoque, aumenta el sistema inmunológico y mucho más. Este programa será gratuit gracias al patrocinio de The Partnership y fondos de Measure O.

En esta ocación nos acompañarán nuestras iunvitadas especiales Marlene y Srena de la Biblioteca del Condado de Sonoma. También estarán a cargo de actividades de manualidades en el jardín. 

Dónde: Nos reuniremos en Bayer Farm; 1550 West Ave. Santa Rosa, CA 95407.

Estacionamiento es limitado, favor de buscar estacionamiento sobre la calle West Ave y después caminar al jardín; estaremos al lado de la granja roja bajo el árbol de nuez.

Que Traer: Lo que ocupe para estar cómodo. 

• una botella de agua reusable 
• zapatos y ropa cómodos que se puedan ensuciar 
• Favor de notar: Si tienen libros con temas de la naturaleza que sus hijos/as ya no usan y quisieran donarlos al programa pueden traerlos a este evento. Usaremos los libros para regalar en las próximas sesiones de lectura en el jardín. 

Resumen de actividad: Una hora y media de diversión al aire libre y lectura en voz alta. Al fin de la lectura los participantes se llevarán un libro para agregar a su colección.

• Les pediremos que firmen un acuerdo de liberación al comienzo del evento. 
• No se permite fumar en el jardín ni traer a sus mascotas. 
• No hay baños en el jardín pero hay un baño portátil en la parte del parque. 
• Lea la versión más reciente de la política Covid-19 de LandPaths antes de asistir.
• Este evento es gratuito gracias a la colaboración entre la Ciudad de Santa Rosa y sus amigos en LandPaths.
