Lend a hand at Riddell! With its magnificent native grasslands, pure madrone stands, redwood fairy rings, and perennial springs, Riddell Preserve is a 400-acre wonderland above Dry Creek Valley in Healdsburg. The Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is a native conifer but due to the lack of fire on the land they grow very fast and grow in dense stands. If left unchecked they can overshadow our oak woodlands and become a fuel ladder. For this volunteer workday, we'll act like fire and cut down the small Douglas firs that grow under the oaks and madrones.Your stewardship will support biodiversity in the oak woodlands and help the forest to be more fire-resilient. 

El abeto de Douglas (Pseudotsuga menziesii) es una conífera nativa, pero debido a la falta de fuego en la tierra crece muy rápido y crece en rodales densos. Si no se controlan, pueden eclipsar nuestros bosques de robles y convertirse en una escalera de combustible. Nuestro objetivo de hoy es actuar como fuego y cortar los pequeños abetos de Douglas que crecen debajo de los robles y madrones. Esto no solo ayuda a mantener la biodiversidad en los bosques de robles, sino que también hace que el bosque sea un poco más resistente al fuego.
