Morning Hike at Lafferty

02/25/2024 09:30 AM - 12:30 PM PT
  • Free
Sonoma Mountain is calling! With an elevation of 2,463 feet, Lafferty ranch has long been a distinctive feature to the county’s residents and visitors. Docent-led group hikes on public land now provide a more up close and personal experience of this iconic landform! With the busy holidays behind us and 2024 under way, refresh yourself with a morning hike through the shady oak woodlands and bright winter-green meadows of Lafferty Ranch on the mountain’s western flank. We’ll savor the rich and varied habitat of this beautiful property and answer your questions about its history. Come prepared for some fairly steep trail sections as we follow the course of year-round Adobe Creek, which descends from its headwaters higher on the mountain. We’ll pause along the way to catch our breath and keep the group together, and at the midpoint to appreciate the astonishing views of Petaluma Valley (and beyond — on a clear day you can see the San Francisco and Oakland skylines!) and some sustenance (please bring water and your snacks or bag lunch of choice). If you have any questions, please contact Roxy at roxy@landpaths or call 707-544-7284 ext 103. Driving and parking directions will be sent out 2 to 3 days before the outing.

Join LandPaths docents Bruce Schneider and Joy Robinson for a beautiful late Winter hike at Lafferty Ranch. We so often think of Winter as a dormant time of year, when there is less nature to see and appreciate. But at Lafferty, it’s not quite the case! This is the best time to experience the property in so many ways: The views are the clearest and longest, the Adobe Creek is babbling happily, and the birds are serenading us. We are going to take this hike slowly, to take it all in.
